Easiest Easter Ever

Posted on

This is going to be the first Easter in 19 years that I haven’t put out an Easter basket for my children. My son is 20 and my daughter is 17. And both of them now have jobs.  So I just felt like it was a little silly to load up baskets full of candy for two people who can literally drive themselves to a convenience store and buy their own candy. LOL

But Sammi and I still dyed eggs (James gave up dyeing eggs years ago) and of course I made cards for the grand nieces and nephews. My newest little grandniece Gabby, was just born on the 22nd of March so she will have to wait for next year to get an Easter card.

This is a discontinued digital stamp by Birdie Brown. I used white Inkssentials Mini Glossy Accents to make the wool texture on the sheep. And the the pink stripes are just card stock  cut into thin lines and glued in place.

Birdie Brown Easter Bunny

Another Birdie Brown digi stamp (that is unfortunately no longer available). I  cut his right ear out with scissors and then trimmed the paper to stop short of either side of his ear. That way his ear extended right off the edge of the page and I think it gave the image a whimsical effect. You may also notice that the two images are slightly different in size and shape. One of the cool things about using digital stamps is the users ability to resize them or flip them to create a mirror image.

Birdie Brown

I was on a Birdie Brown kick this Easter and these two cards feature another of her adorable, yet unobtainable digital images. The butterflies have Wink of Stella on them and Glossy Accents on top of that.

I am always fascinated by the way a different card base color can change the way the images pop. Both cards are pleasing to look at but, the one in green just jumps off of the screen.

Adorable easter cards

Most likely you can tell by the look of this bunny who the artist is that created him. And you have probably guessed at the likelihood as to whether or not you could purchased this stamp.

This card features another bunny who’s ear flops right off the page and a shiny red pair of shorts and tie. I decided to try something a little different with the way in which I matted the image. For some reason the diamond shape and the graduated lines makes me think of Art Deco style.

I found this digital image on Pinterest and I just added a quote of my own design by adding a text box under the image in Windows. These two cards are for two 15 year old grandnephews and I thought they might be amused by the sentiment.

Happy Easter to you,

Love is in the Air

Probably many of you have purchased various stamp sets and used them once and never touched them again. I know that I have! And because of that I wanted to try to use an autumn themed set that I have, in a whole new way. In November I shared some Thanksgiving cards I made using the adorable Harvest Mouse stamp set from My Favorite Things creator, Birdie Brown. And then in February I challenged myself to use the set again but, to create Valentine’s Day scenes.

Making these little mice into messengers of love was pretty easy. All I did was use a razor knife to create a slit on either side of the mouse’s arm and then I inserted a Valentine greeting in his grip. I did the same thing to the basket and of course I just glued some hearts around the mouse who was in a leaf pile in the original set. Viola, Autumn mice become mice of love! (You can also see that I doodled stripes and checks on their sweaters and vests and I gave one of the mice an elbow patch on his sweater too.)

Ahoy, There!

I wanted to share with you a card I made using the latest digital release by Birdie Brown. This image can be purchased on Torico’s Etsy site. Nautical images are everywhere this Spring and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on these adorable images.

I added the wooden ship deck and the back of the boat by hand doodling them in. And just for fun I used an anchor for another new set called Nautical Icon to create a tattoo on the captains left arm.

Here’s a close up of his tattoo. So cute!

Birdie Brown Freebie: For You

This is a Birdie Brown November Freebie stamp called, For You. I love the way the bright blue of my Copic Marker pops against the watercolor blue I used on the gentlemen’s coat! There is  glitter on the snowman’s tie and buttons but, it is hard to see in the photo. The sentiment is from Hero Arts Holiday Cheer clear stamp set.

I am entering this into Birdie’s monthly challenge: November Freebie Challenge  Head over to her blog and grab the freebie before it’s gone. And join in on the challenge for a chance to win more of her great digital images!

You Turn Me On (Retro TV image)

This adorable image is July’s freebie from Torico on her Birdie Brown Blog. Torico is offering a free sentiment too but, I made one of my own to use.  As soon as I saw this image I knew that I wanted to use a “punny saying” along with it.

I hopped around the internet and found a cool image to use for the background of the TV screen. Torico offers her images in a JPG or PNG format and I chose to download the PNG so that I could layer the image like I did here. The word bubble is just a clip art insert offered on Windows with a text box inside of it.

I am going to enter this card into the Birdie Brown July Challenge  You should grab the freebie and play along too!

Sunny Side of Life

Posted on

Before I get into my card I wanted to tell everyone that it’s sunny again here in North Florida.  Debby brought our county 10″ of rain in just 5 days!  The storm created some flooding which was bad but, also much needed rain. Our area of North FLA was in a severe drought for the last few years. We went from being in a moderate/severe drought condition to no drought at all for our area in just a few short days! I feel for all of those who are suffering from water damage in their homes right now but, our state really needed the rain. Sometimes you have to look at the “sunny” side of things even when that thing is a Tropical Storm.

I love this cute penguin by Torico. He reminds me of the smooth talking penguin from the Madagascar movies. “Smile and wave boys. Just smile and wave.”

I decided to create a subtle version of patriotic colors for this card. This way I can send it out for a Fourth of July card for one of my nephews but, I can also use the duplicate version (I usually make more than one of each card I make) for summertime birthdays. Of which I have many. (20 to be exact!)

I am entering this card into the Simon Says Stamp Sporty or Patriotic Challenge and also into the Card Making Mamas Color Challenge #48

Give Me a Call Sometime

I love these great Retro Phone images that Torico shared with her reader’s for June’s freebie image.  You can download them  at Birdie Brown’s Blog and play along for a chance to win a free digital stamp too!
As soon as I saw these phones I knew that I wanted to created a long distance theme. I had purchased a road atlas at Target for $2.50 a few  weeks ago and I thought that a map would make a great background paper for my idea. Nothing makes me happier than when I have an idea in my head and I can translate it onto paper just as I pictured it!

I am entering this card into the following challenges:  Birdie Brown’s June Freebie Challenge , Simon Says Stamps Anything Goes  and also

Snips and Snails Baby Boy Card

Posted on

Here is another card I made using the snail from Birdie Brown’s Spring Bugs set. This card is for a co-worker and his girlfriend who just found out that they were having a baby boy! I love English nursery rhymes and when I think about baby boys I think of this rhyme: What are little boys made of?  Snips and snails and puppy dog’s tails. That’s what little boys are made of.

I paper pieced the snail shells but, I colored his body with my Copic Ciao markers. After I finished gluing, coloring and cutting my snail I ran it through my Big Shot inside my Tiny Bubbles, Cuttlebug folder. For a final touch I covered his body in Glossy Accents for an authentic slick slug look.

Here is a closer look at glossy finish on the snails body. I used the Glossy accents to give a little more pop to my sentiment too.

One Good Thing Leads to Another

Posted on

I won this adorable snail from one of Birdie Brown’s Blog Challenges. He comes as part of a set called Spring Bugs. In a effort to create something fun and whimsical I colored his shell in a rainbow pattern.  The rainbow colors made me think of Peace, Love and Harmony a’la 1970’s hippie tie dye! And that led me to this sentiment from the Pursuit of Happiness collection from Stampin’ Up.

After I pierced the holes around the snail the card still looked a little plain and I was stumped as to what I wanted to add. Then I looked at this week’s Put a Bling on It challenge over at CAS-ual Friday’s and I knew just what to do. I think the rainbow colored jewels are the perfect addition for this card.

I will be entering this card in the following challenge: CAS-ual Friday’s Put a Bling on It CFC55

Here is a closer look at my groovy sentiment.
