Hound Dog, Rockin all the Time

Posted on

Have you seen Birdie Brown’s latest free digital image? It is freakin’ adorable! I went crazy with it and created 4 cards for here June Freebie Challenge. Now I have to decide which one to feature for the challenge.

Birdie Brown's Rockin Dog

My first card is clean and simple but, I had a little fun customizing the sentiment.

Birdie Brown You Rock Dog

I gave this dog a patriotic vibe using red, white and blue.

I used two stars to create the star burst behind this rockin pup. And the sentiments are from the Rad stamp set from CASual Friday Stamps.

rainbow dogFor this last card I dropped a little acid and turned on some Jimi Hendrix tunes. LOL ¬†Seriously, I was inspired to create a very 1960’s trippy little dog and I think my idea panned out pretty well. I colored the rainbow stripes with Copic Markers and then I dabbed them with Copic Blending solution on a rag to create a more transparent look.

Go grab your freebie at Birdie Brown’s blog and play along for a chance to win some free digital stamps. You only have until June 29th to play along.

I wanted to share with you a card I made using the latest digital release by Birdie Brown. This image can be purchased on Torico’s Etsy site. Nautical images are everywhere this Spring and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on these adorable images.

I added the wooden ship deck and the back of the boat by hand doodling them in. And just for fun I used an anchor for another new set called Nautical Icon to create a tattoo on the captains left arm.

Here’s a close up of his tattoo. So cute!

Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head

When I was a kid I loved that old song by Burt Bacharach….Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head. It was just such a catchy tune. And every time I color this image by Torico of Birdie Brown it makes me think of that song.

I have been having a lot of fun using the Honeycomb stamp from my most recent Paper Smooches stamp purchase. The stamp set is called Geo-Graphic and it includes a polka dot stamp, this honeycomb and a chevron stamp.

The main image is a digital stamp from Birdie Brown. The characters that Torico (Birdie Brown’s creator) draws are always so adorable. You should consider visiting her blog to see more of what she has to offer and you can join in her monthly challenges by using her latest free image.

Oh Snap, It’s Your Birthday!

Posted on

My niece Amanda is turning one quarter of a century old on the 12th of April. I can’t believe it has been 25 years since I sat with my sister, Nancy and held her hand while she gave birth to Amanda. My brother-in-law, Geoff had to travel out of the country for a day or two and as Murphy’s Law would have it Amanda was born a week early while her father was abroad.

I was only 17 at the time but, I had attended one Lamaze class with my big sister and I was spending the weekend at her house while Geoff was out of town. So that qualified me to be the one to stay with her in the birthing room.

Nancy and I watched the Oscars on TV during her labor and I think it is the only year that I have ever watched the entire Oscars award ceremony. It was a good way to pass the time and for my sister to forget her labor pains for a while.

My sister didn’t have an epidural and yet ,she was so calm and brave the whole time. She did squeeze my hand very tightly at times and she muttered a curse word or two but, overall she really made the whole birthing process look easy. And when Amanda was born she and I shared tears of joy and relief together.

I made this card for Amanda’s birthday and I want her to know how much I love her. Happy birthday, Amanda!

The inside of the card says Happy Birthday. “A Little Birdie Told Me”

Birdie Brown Freebie: For You

This is a Birdie Brown November Freebie stamp called, For You. I love the way the bright blue of my Copic Marker pops against the watercolor blue I used on the gentlemen’s coat! There is ¬†glitter on the snowman’s tie and buttons but, it is hard to see in the photo. The sentiment is from Hero Arts Holiday Cheer clear stamp set.

I am entering this into Birdie’s monthly challenge: November Freebie Challenge¬† Head over to her blog and grab the freebie before it’s gone. And join in on the challenge for a chance to win more of her great digital images!
