Dudes Thinking of Dudes

Posted on

Just a quick post so that I can play along at Operation Write Home: Masculine Thinking of You  I pulled out and dusted of a stamp set that included gears. After I stamped the gears I cut out the spaces between each one so I could mount them separately. The black background paper is dry embossed with a diamond plate folder. (Like the diamond plating you see on truck bumpers and tool boxes)

I kept it all very clean and simple cuz real men don’t like fluff. But I couldn’t resist adding one tiny little bit of bling in the center of the largest gear.

Why not create a manly “Thinking of You” card and link it to the OWH blog. There are no winners or losers in the blog challenge. They just want you to create cards for them to mail to our troops in the field.  I send batches of 20-40 cards a couple of times per year.

You can find out more at Operationwritehome.org

I will be entering this card into the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Anything Goes This one has a prize and the challenge is open until late night next Tuesday.

Fly Away, with Papertrey Ink Stamps

Hello! I sneaked in a few hours this weekend to create some cards with a few stamp set that I got for my birthday in August. The sets are from a company called Papertrey Ink. They have the cutest stamps sets and matching dies!

The set I am featuring in this post is called Fly Away and it is a mini set that sell for $5. I also purchased the matching die which was $7. Although the die cost more than the stamp set, it was worth it. Having the matching die means no “fussy cutting” which means no finger cramping or aggravation of my Carpal Tunnel.

hey buddy I made this first card for Operation Write Home. My intention was to create something for a soldier to send home to his/her little boy.  Both the banner and the airplane are stamped and die cut from the Fly Away set. I created the background paper by sponging over a cloud that I hand cut from cardboard. Once the sponging was finished I stamped the word hello with with Versamark Champagne ink. And lastly I stamped the border.

Fly Away Mini Stamp Set

CAS-ual Fridays has a challenge going on right now called She’s Krafty and She’s Just My Type.

I created this card to play along. The sentiment is from another Papertrey Ink stamp set called Whale Wishes.  In order to create a waving banner look I just bent the stamp as I placed it on my acrylic block. Next I sponged around my cloud die again but, this time with a coordinating color so that the whole card stayed neutral. I wanted the red of the airplane and the banner to really pop off the card.

Fly Away

For my last card I decided to cover the entire background of the card with the sentiment. It looks good but, I have to admit that it was quite a bit of repeat stamping!  I sponged on the clouds right over the background text.  Just like I did for the last card, I stamped the sentiment for the banner and then hand cut the banner.

I will be entering my Kraft paper card in to the CASual Fridays challenge CFC113 She’s Krafty and She’s Just My Type. You have until Sept 5 if you want to play along.

Back to Basics…Training That Is.

Posted on

I made a couple of new cards to send to our son James while he attends Army Basic Training. We have heard from him by letter twice.  James told us that Basic was tough but, not as hard as he expected. He also said the food wasn’t bad and that he was a fast eater, so the brief chow times were no problem for him. (The brief time and long lines in his High School cafeteria trained him well) The only thing he really disliked was the lack of sleep and the mandatory 1/4 mile sprint after every meal.

Word Jumble Card

I have seen a few cards similar to this one around the internet. It seemed simple enough but, it actually took a little time to get the letter spacing and jumblyness (a new word for Webster’s Dictionary) just like I wanted it. One of the B s in the middle got smudged but, overall I am pleased with simple, graphic nature of the card.

Each time  we receive another letter from our son I get all excited to read what he has experienced that week.  I would guess that he gets a happy feeling too when he gets a letter from one of his family or friends. And so I have been sending at least one letter per week.

You Are Here

I had made a card similar to this one before. In my heart card But the clothespin was much too large to send through standard mail. So I wound up hand delivering the original card to my parents for their 55th Wedding Anniversary last month.

The newer version of this card is much more practical for mailing purposes. And I love the new Pointing Hand stamp that I purchased recently from Purple Onion Designs! P.O.D. is having a 25% off sale on all of their stamps until August 25.
