Falling Behind Since the Fourth of July

Posted on

I haven’t posted since May but, that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been crafting. This summer just seemed to be flying by and I just kept procrastinating about blogging. But I am back! And I am finally going to post my cards from the Fourth of July.

As you may know by now I send out 10 cards for every major and minor holiday for my nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Below are the cards that I sent out. I made some duplicates and that is why I am only featuring 6 cards today.

Aero Boy Deasy Design I used a digital stamp set from Deasy Design called Aero Boy for these first few cards. Additionally, I paired the little pilot with some fireworks that are part of a digital stamp from Stampin Up. The sentiment is handstamped and I hand doodled the diagonal stripes on the wings.

Aero Boy  Here is another image from the Aero Boy collection.  For both this card and the one above I added little star stamps to the boys shirt to make it even more patriotic.

Aero Boy Deasy Design This set of digital stamps from Deasy Design is so cute and it’s really a bargain. You get 15 or 16 individual digital stamps for only $7.50!  You can find these stamps here DeasyDesigns on Etsy.

Whimsie Doodles Stamps Whimsie Doodles Stamps Whimsie Doodles Stamps

I have a few nieces as well as nephews, so I made a few feminine cards as well. This card features a freebie from Whimsie Doodles called July4day. I colored each girls hair just a little differently to represent the niece to whom I was sending it. One of my nieces has the cutest curly hair so I doodled in some wavy locks.

Birdie Brown Freebie

I almost never participate in sketch challenges because, I get all caught up in trying to copy the sketch but, not “COPY” the sketch. Do you know what I mean? The idea is to follow along with the original but, make it your own. And the whole time I’m thinking “this doesn’t look like the original”! Very stressful. LOL

But this time the prize was way too tempting for me to sit this one out. I can’t tell you what the prize is but, you can see for yourself by hopping along the blogging trail. Cards Blog Challenge

sketch

For my version of the sketch I used the sentiment portion of Birdie Brown’s monthly freebie, an older wood mount musical score stamp and some Spellbinder Nestabilities Dies. I printed the sentiment out and colored the words in green before blotting the banner in some Shock Pink Copic refill ink. As you can see the pink bleed onto the green and gave me an unintentional two toned effect, that I wound up really liking. The two toned ink gave me the inspiration to create the green star insert for the pink circle. As a final touch I added Glossy Accents and some Fairy Dust glitter to the sentiment and star and a few pink gems too.

I will be entering my card into the Cards Blog Challenge to win the a fore mentioned prize pack. You can join in too up until June 17th!

I used a freebie stamp from the Alley Way Stamps to create a card for their Be Inspired #7 challenge. I love their super cute stamp sets! But, I am broke as a joke and I can’t afford to order a stamp set. So….I am hoping to win one!

I colored the trees with my Prisma Color pencils, cut them out and then glued them onto a 1″ paper circle. I added a paper rosette to hide the gaps between the tree points. The sentiment frame is from Stampin’ Up and the sentiment is another freebie from The Alley Way Stamps.  There is still plenty of time to play along if you’d like.

I am entering my card at The Alley Way Stamps Be Inspired # 7 Come and Play challenge.

Wish me luck!

You Turn Me On (Retro TV image)

This adorable image is July’s freebie from Torico on her Birdie Brown Blog. Torico is offering a free sentiment too but, I made one of my own to use.  As soon as I saw this image I knew that I wanted to use a “punny saying” along with it.

I hopped around the internet and found a cool image to use for the background of the TV screen. Torico offers her images in a JPG or PNG format and I chose to download the PNG so that I could layer the image like I did here. The word bubble is just a clip art insert offered on Windows with a text box inside of it.

I am going to enter this card into the Birdie Brown July Challenge  You should grab the freebie and play along too!

My Hearts a Stereo ;)

Posted on

I came up with the idea for this card and I told my daughter Sam about it. She thought the idea was great, but the fact that I didn’t know the name of the song, was lame.  Unfortunately, I have a terrible memory for these sorts of things and I just make up new names for things all the time. For example;I call this Gym Class Heroes song “My Hearts a Stereo” and  I am always thinking that the name of the Ford Sync system is In Sync. This issue is certainly a genetic trait I inherited from my mother who thinks “Ginko Balinko”  (Ginkgo Biloba) will help your memory, that the movie “Chicken Soup” (Chicken Run) was hilarious and that my son is addicted to playing his “Bluetooth 360” (xbox 360).

I used  a Market Street Stamp freebie and a line from the Gym Class Heroes’ song Stereo Hearts to make this fun card. I decided to create a rainbow effect in the text and in the colors of the radio. The radio is actually paper pieced to give it some more dimension but, I’m not sure that you can tell that from the photo. The word bubble is hand cut and both the word bubble and the radio are thinly covered in Glossy Accents.

I am going to enter this card in the CAS-ual Friday Challenge CFC60  Use text in your Clean And Simple design.

Sunny Side of Life

Posted on

Before I get into my card I wanted to tell everyone that it’s sunny again here in North Florida.  Debby brought our county 10″ of rain in just 5 days!  The storm created some flooding which was bad but, also much needed rain. Our area of North FLA was in a severe drought for the last few years. We went from being in a moderate/severe drought condition to no drought at all for our area in just a few short days! I feel for all of those who are suffering from water damage in their homes right now but, our state really needed the rain. Sometimes you have to look at the “sunny” side of things even when that thing is a Tropical Storm.

I love this cute penguin by Torico. He reminds me of the smooth talking penguin from the Madagascar movies. “Smile and wave boys. Just smile and wave.”

I decided to create a subtle version of patriotic colors for this card. This way I can send it out for a Fourth of July card for one of my nephews but, I can also use the duplicate version (I usually make more than one of each card I make) for summertime birthdays. Of which I have many. (20 to be exact!)

I am entering this card into the Simon Says Stamp Sporty or Patriotic Challenge and also into the Card Making Mamas Color Challenge #48

Life is a Journey

I got this great travel trailer digital stamp from Market Street Stamps blog.  If you become a member of their blog you can get the free digital images they offer when they are having a Block Party challenge. The truck was a digital freebie I found through Free Digital Stamps blog.  I used another page from my road atlas for this card and I tried to incorporate some extra visual interest by adding the twine and brads.

I am entering this card into the Block Party Challenge for June. There are some gorgeous entries already listed on the MSS blog. Luckily the winner is drawn by random selection, so I still have a shot! Ha, ha.

Keep Your Fin Up

This is the June digital freebie image from The Alley Way Stamps. I thought this sentiment was perfect for someone who was struggling in life at the moment. That is why I featured the big fish swimming upstream. Because I think at times we have all felt that way. Like we were just *ahem* just treading water. The polka dots add the extra touch of whimsy this card needed. I don’t have a polka dot stamp so I hand doodle the dots. (Not too shabby for freehand)

I am entering this card into the The Alley Way Stamps Be Inspired #5 Challenge and also into CAS-ual Fridays CFC56 Sweet Spot Challenge.

If you want to play along at TAWS and you don’t own any Alley Way Stamps you can grab one of their freebies and craft away. To play along at CAS-ual Fridays you just have to create a card featuring Polka Dots.

Give Me a Call Sometime

I love these great Retro Phone images that Torico shared with her reader’s for June’s freebie image.  You can download them  at Birdie Brown’s Blog and play along for a chance to win a free digital stamp too!
As soon as I saw these phones I knew that I wanted to created a long distance theme. I had purchased a road atlas at Target for $2.50 a few  weeks ago and I thought that a map would make a great background paper for my idea. Nothing makes me happier than when I have an idea in my head and I can translate it onto paper just as I pictured it!

Snips and Snails Baby Boy Card

Posted on

Here is another card I made using the snail from Birdie Brown’s Spring Bugs set. This card is for a co-worker and his girlfriend who just found out that they were having a baby boy! I love English nursery rhymes and when I think about baby boys I think of this rhyme: What are little boys made of?  Snips and snails and puppy dog’s tails. That’s what little boys are made of.

I paper pieced the snail shells but, I colored his body with my Copic Ciao markers. After I finished gluing, coloring and cutting my snail I ran it through my Big Shot inside my Tiny Bubbles, Cuttlebug folder. For a final touch I covered his body in Glossy Accents for an authentic slick slug look.

Here is a closer look at glossy finish on the snails body. I used the Glossy accents to give a little more pop to my sentiment too.
