Flights of Fancy…Cards

This Martha Stewart stamp was on sale last spring so I snapped it up. I made a few cards with it but, I wasn’t thrilled with them. So I shelved the stamp and I hadn’t played around with it for a long time. But I recently thought about trying the stamp out again with watercolor paints. The watercolor paints made all the difference for me. I think the second batch has better coloring and I like the way I mounted them better too.

Here are the cards from my first go around. These were colored with colored pencils and blended with Gamsol.

For the next set of cards I used Aquarelle hot pressed watercolor paper and an ancient watercolor paint set my dad gave to me. (I think it was the one he used in college) I also used the Spellbinders Nestabilities: Reverse Wonky Rectangle  dies and Lifestyles Crafts: Nested Rounded Squares that I got for Christmas. The Lifestyles Crafts brand was way cheaper than the Spellbinders version and it included more die cuts too! Two thumbs up on these from me.

Merry Christmas to Me

I bought myself a Christmas present this year. It is something I have been wanting for a long time….Copic Markers!!!  (Copic markers are alcohol based, they can be blended and they are refillable.) The markers were on sale at Dick Blick and if you spent $150 you received another 15% off your total order and free shipping. So I made like I was the last of the big spenders and plunked down $152 on myself. Needless to say I won’t be getting anything under the tree but I don’t mind!

I used to color all of my stamped images with colored pencils and then blend them with Gamsol. But I was never really thrilled with the results. These markers blend so nicely and the cards I have made with them appear more professionally finished.

BTW: The first two cards are made with Recollections stamps and the third is a House Mouse stamp. The Copic set I bought was 36A from the Ciao collection. (Ciao is cheaper than Sketch markers.) I purchased an additional 12 colors and a blender pen at the time of order and because of the blendable properties of the pen these 38 colors should be all that I need for a long while!
