Cards for Kids: OWH Throwdown

Posted on

I make cards for my family and friends but, I also make cards to donate to Operation Write Home. OWH sends cards to military personnel who are deployed outside of the United States. The cards are free for the men and women of our Armed Forces and the cards provide a means for them to keep in touch with loved ones at home. Each week OWH hosts a “Midweek Throwdown” that challenges cardmakers to create cards following a certain theme. This weeks theme is Cards for Kids.

Most of the cards I make are for kids because, I have nearly two dozen nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. For this card I tried to make something cute but, not too babyish since kids include teenagers too.  I used some of the cute characters from my Hero Arts: Woodland Creatures stamp set. And I created a photo booth strip look to feature 3 of the cutest critters.

Hero Arts Forest Critters

Last week I was  archiving the photos of my cards and I noticed that I make A LOT of cards on white cardstock, with the focal feature in the dead center and mounted on plain colored paper. So I made a conscious effort to do something a little different this time.  Kinda cute!

I will be sharing this card with the Operation Write Home, Stars and Stamps Blog for their Midweek Throwdown.

Another Color Me a Hero, Card

Posted on

This is another card I made to enter into A Blog Named Hero’s Challenge #5: Color Me a Hero.  I am having a lot of fun playing around with this stamp set from Hero Arts called Woodland Critters. I found this stamp set for $3 on clearance at Michael’s a few weeks ago and  I snatched it up. I love finding treasures like this in the bargain bin. Don’t you?

I am entering this card at Tuesday Morning Sketches #149 also. Why not take a look at their blog and play along. You could win 7 Bugaboo Stamp images!

Color Me a Hero, Card

I used my Hero Arts Woodland Critters clear stamp set for this card. The challenge was to use the colors from  A Blog Named Hero’s logo. I decided to go all Andy Warhol on this! I am entering this card into Challenge #5 Color Me a Hero at A Blog Named Hero.

I have definitely caught Challenge fever. This is my 3rd or 4th challenge entry this week! After I won the Let’s Celebrate challenge at Digi Darla’s and the Stitched Rose challenge at Birdie Brown, back to back, I kinda lost my mind. I am convinced that I will win every challenge I ever enter!!!! (As you can tell I can get a little over excited at times. I’m like a 5 year old who is all hopped up on Halloween candy right now)

Happy Stamping,

A Blog Named Hero Card

Posted on

I created this card before I left for work this morning for the Dust ‘Em Off challenge being held at a Blog Named Hero. I don’t have a lot of Hero Arts stamps but, I had recently purchased this stamp and thought it would be perfect. It is called Woodland Critters and this is the first card I have made with this stamp set so be on the lookout for more to come!

I used Prisma Colored pencils and Gamsol blending solution to color the stamps. The background is sponged using Tempting Turquoise from Stampin’ Up and I cut a scrap of green paper to make the fringed grass at the bottom of the card. I’m not sure if you can see it in the pictures but, the butterflies are sparkly and the mushrooms have dimensional spots!

The challenge ends on May 25th USA time so get your entries in soon.

Happy Stamping,

Mo
