Falling Behind Since the Fourth of July

Posted on

I haven’t posted since May but, that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been crafting. This summer just seemed to be flying by and I just kept procrastinating about blogging. But I am back! And I am finally going to post my cards from the Fourth of July.

As you may know by now I send out 10 cards for every major and minor holiday for my nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Below are the cards that I sent out. I made some duplicates and that is why I am only featuring 6 cards today.

Aero Boy Deasy Design I used a digital stamp set from Deasy Design called Aero Boy for these first few cards. Additionally, I paired the little pilot with some fireworks that are part of a digital stamp from Stampin Up. The sentiment is handstamped and I hand doodled the diagonal stripes on the wings.

Aero Boy  Here is another image from the Aero Boy collection.  For both this card and the one above I added little star stamps to the boys shirt to make it even more patriotic.

Aero Boy Deasy Design This set of digital stamps from Deasy Design is so cute and it’s really a bargain. You get 15 or 16 individual digital stamps for only $7.50!  You can find these stamps here DeasyDesigns on Etsy.

I have a few nieces as well as nephews, so I made a few feminine cards as well. This card features a freebie from Whimsie Doodles called July4day. I colored each girls hair just a little differently to represent the niece to whom I was sending it. One of my nieces has the cutest curly hair so I doodled in some wavy locks.

Tis the Season For Digital Stamps

I am a big fan of graphic designer and artist Torico. She is from Japan and she goes by the name Birdie Brown for her digital images. She has temporarily retired from creating digital images but, I have purchased quite a few of her images and I love working with them.

This stamp is called Happy Santa and he is just so cute!

Birdie Brown Happy Santa Card

Santa Ho Ho Ho cardThe best thing about digital stamps is that they allow the crafter to mix and match and move the stamps around. Santa, the little girl, and the presents behind Santa are all separate stamps. So you could use just the gifts for a birthday card. Or you could use the girl alone and add a tiny flower or animal stamp just below her gaze.  And best of all you can resize the stamps to be a large or as small as you like. All you need is a basic knowledge of Word and you too can use digital stamps.

Santa and reindeer

Just as in the last card Santa, the reindeer and the sentiment are all individual stamps that I have grouped together to create my focal point.

Santa and Little Girl

I featured polka dots on this series of cards. And I chose to cover them with Glossy Accents, which creates a 3 dimensional look that really stands out.

Reindeer cardThis card illustrates the other advantage of using digital stamps. You can flip the image 180 degrees and get the mirror image.

I could have made these 2 reindeer stand nose to nose and drawn eyelashes on one with hearts over their heads to make a cute Christmas card for a couple.

If you don’t want to spend any money to try out digital stamping you can visit Free Digital Stamps daily or sign up to receive one of their emails each day to see who is giving away a free digital stamp that day.

Happy Stamping,

Birdie Brown Freebie

I almost never participate in sketch challenges because, I get all caught up in trying to copy the sketch but, not “COPY” the sketch. Do you know what I mean? The idea is to follow along with the original but, make it your own. And the whole time I’m thinking “this doesn’t look like the original”! Very stressful. LOL

But this time the prize was way too tempting for me to sit this one out. I can’t tell you what the prize is but, you can see for yourself by hopping along the blogging trail. Cards Blog Challenge

For my version of the sketch I used the sentiment portion of Birdie Brown’s monthly freebie, an older wood mount musical score stamp and some Spellbinder Nestabilities Dies. I printed the sentiment out and colored the words in green before blotting the banner in some Shock Pink Copic refill ink. As you can see the pink bleed onto the green and gave me an unintentional two toned effect, that I wound up really liking. The two toned ink gave me the inspiration to create the green star insert for the pink circle. As a final touch I added Glossy Accents and some Fairy Dust glitter to the sentiment and star and a few pink gems too.

I will be entering my card into the Cards Blog Challenge to win the a fore mentioned prize pack. You can join in too up until June 17th!

Happy Stamping,
