The Alley Way Stamps Christmas in July

Posted on

The Alley Way Stamps (TAWS) is hosting a Be Inspired Challenge based on Christmas in July. In order to let those who may not own any TAWS stamps play along, they offer some freebie images on their blog that can be used. These three little trees are one such set!

The sentiment I used on this card is a vinyl rub on from EAD Designs‘ Christmas Sentiments 2 set. I really loved how sturdy the vinyl is and how easily it transferred onto my cardstock.

Here’s a close up of the card I made using a free image from The Alley Way Stamps. I coated the trees in Glossy Accents after coloring them with Prisma  Colored pencils blended with Gamsol.

As you may have guessed I am entering this card into the BE inspired Challenge #6 Something NEW challenge .

Happy Stamping,

You Turn Me On (Retro TV image)

Posted on

This adorable image is July’s freebie from Torico on her Birdie Brown Blog. Torico is offering a free sentiment too but, I made one of my own to use.  As soon as I saw this image I knew that I wanted to use a “punny saying” along with it.

I hopped around the internet and found a cool image to use for the background of the TV screen. Torico offers her images in a JPG or PNG format and I chose to download the PNG so that I could layer the image like I did here. The word bubble is just a clip art insert offered on Windows with a text box inside of it.

I am going to enter this card into the Birdie Brown July Challenge  You should grab the freebie and play along too!

My Hearts a Stereo ;)

Posted on

I came up with the idea for this card and I told my daughter Sam about it. She thought the idea was great, but the fact that I didn’t know the name of the song, was lame.  Unfortunately, I have a terrible memory for these sorts of things and I just make up new names for things all the time. For example;I call this Gym Class Heroes song “My Hearts a Stereo” and  I am always thinking that the name of the Ford Sync system is In Sync. This issue is certainly a genetic trait I inherited from my mother who thinks “Ginko Balinko”  (Ginkgo Biloba) will help your memory, that the movie “Chicken Soup” (Chicken Run) was hilarious and that my son is addicted to playing his “Bluetooth 360” (xbox 360).

I used  a Market Street Stamp freebie and a line from the Gym Class Heroes’ song Stereo Hearts to make this fun card. I decided to create a rainbow effect in the text and in the colors of the radio. The radio is actually paper pieced to give it some more dimension but, I’m not sure that you can tell that from the photo. The word bubble is hand cut and both the word bubble and the radio are thinly covered in Glossy Accents.

I am going to enter this card in the CAS-ual Friday Challenge CFC60  Use text in your Clean And Simple design.

Let Freedom Ring

This is a group shot of most of the cards that I made for my nieces and nephews and 2 of my friend’s kids. I try to send a card with either stickers or a $1 bill in it to my N & N’s each holiday. It’s a fun way to keep in touch with them and the kids get such a thrill out of getting mail too.

I used my Imaginisce Crab and Imaginisce Whale stamps for some of the cards. For the sailboat card I used the Stampin’ Up Sail Away stamp set and I hand wrote the sentiment.  The star for the card in the front center was hand cut and I added a button that says Liberty on it. (I have no idea where this button came from because I’ve had it for eons!)

Nothing says American summer more than sweet, delicious

crustaceans and pyrotechnics!

I hope you have a whale-y good time this 4th of July!

For my 12 year old nephews (My sister Nancy has 3 boys all 12 years old!) I wanted to create something a little more mature but still festive. I used the Sail Away set from Stampin’ Up to make this card. I hand wrote the sentiment with a white gel pen.

(FYI my walls are not green. I took these photos at night and the pendant lights that hang above my kitchen island are green. The lights don’t make the walls look green to the naked eye but the camera captured the green light that pendants must  cast.)

Happy 4th of July,

Justice…With a Side of Birthday Cake

Posted on

Our 16 year old son James and his good friend Maya recently starting dating. Maya likes gaming, drawing and Batman. This week is Maya’s birthday and I wanted to make her a one of a kind Batman card.

I found a free digital image on Mariah’s website Paper & Pomegranates. Mariah has created a really cute set of Justice League characters that she is offering for free. You can choose to print out the black and white or colored version. I love to color so I chose the B/W version.

Because Batman is part of the Justice League, I decided to heat emboss the word justice on the front of the card. The word justice combined with Batman reminded me of this hilarious video I saw on you tube, The Dark Knight Kills Christmas. (Warning: if you do not like over the top, juvenile humor, you may not find this video funny. However if you liked the movies Nacho Libre, Napoleon Dynamite or Thumb Wars you will like Max’s style.) This video was the inspiration for my sentiment.

Now Max wanted “Justice…with a side order of spaghetti” but, spaghetti just didn’t make sense for my card. So I changed the sentiment to what you see above. But I wanted to pay homage to Max and I thought Maya might get a kick out of the fact that her boyfriend’s mom watches and enjoys goofy Youtube videos too. So I added my favorite line from Max’s video underneath my sentiment.

I hoped you enjoyed my card and that I haven’t either scarred you for life, or radically altered your opinion of me by sharing this crazy Batman video with you.

I am entering this card into the Lawnscaping Challenge #37: Use Dimension.

P.S. I made actually made two cards and I let James choose which one he wanted to give to Maya. He chose this one. I guess maybe because it was more authentic.

Sunny Side of Life

Posted on

Before I get into my card I wanted to tell everyone that it’s sunny again here in North Florida.  Debby brought our county 10″ of rain in just 5 days!  The storm created some flooding which was bad but, also much needed rain. Our area of North FLA was in a severe drought for the last few years. We went from being in a moderate/severe drought condition to no drought at all for our area in just a few short days! I feel for all of those who are suffering from water damage in their homes right now but, our state really needed the rain. Sometimes you have to look at the “sunny” side of things even when that thing is a Tropical Storm.

I love this cute penguin by Torico. He reminds me of the smooth talking penguin from the Madagascar movies. “Smile and wave boys. Just smile and wave.”

I decided to create a subtle version of patriotic colors for this card. This way I can send it out for a Fourth of July card for one of my nephews but, I can also use the duplicate version (I usually make more than one of each card I make) for summertime birthdays. Of which I have many. (20 to be exact!)

I am entering this card into the Simon Says Stamp Sporty or Patriotic Challenge and also into the Card Making Mamas Color Challenge #48

I’m Dreaming of a Pink Christmas

Posted on

I used my Stampin’ Up Greeting Card Kids digital image for this card. I wanted to enter something into the Cas-ual Fridays contest for their Pretty in Pink Challenge and I wanted to get started on this years Christmas cards. Last year I left it down to the wire and that really stressed me out!

Although the colors are very unconventional for Christmas, I think this is still a super cute card! Most likely I will send it for one of my little nieces. Little girls usually love all things pink!

As I said I am entering this into CAS-uals Fridays Pretty in Pink CFC58 Challenge

Gus Does Father’s Day

Posted on

I used this hilarious Gus image and sentiment from Bugaboo Stamps to create my dad’s Fathers Day card. This is a digital image and  it can be used with or without the sentiment. The inside sentiment says “tomorrow”. My dad is anything but spontaneous and I knew he would get a good laugh out of this card.

I added the TV by hand doodling it onto the card after I printed the image. And the polka dots are made by dabbing a new pencil erasers onto a ink pad and then pressing it on the paper.

Happy Father’s Day, Dad! I love you lots.

Life is a Journey

I got this great travel trailer digital stamp from Market Street Stamps blog.  If you become a member of their blog you can get the free digital images they offer when they are having a Block Party challenge. The truck was a digital freebie I found through Free Digital Stamps blog.  I used another page from my road atlas for this card and I tried to incorporate some extra visual interest by adding the twine and brads.

I am entering this card into the Block Party Challenge for June. There are some gorgeous entries already listed on the MSS blog. Luckily the winner is drawn by random selection, so I still have a shot! Ha, ha.

Stellar Stella Cards

Posted on

Stella Tidbits – Still Hot Inside sentiment: if flashes count!

I won these images from Bugaboo Stamps as a prize from a challenge at Digi Darla’s. There were so many Stella and Gus images that I would have like to gotten but alas, my prize was 7 digis so I chose 5 punny images and two cute ones not featured here.

Stella Tidbits – Grain of Salt Inside sentiment: and a shot of tequila.

I made this as a birthday card for a friend but it could easily be  an encouragement card too.

Stella Summer Blocks – 5 o’clock No inside sentiment

Stella is a cranky old lady who is the creation of Jodie from Bugaboo Stamps. Stella has a “no holds barred” sort of attitude and she enjoys a good laugh at other people expense from time to time.

Stella – Perfect Man Inside sentiment: He’s living in San Fran with his boyfriend.

I just had to get this image for a birthday card for my niece who is single and living in San Francisco. It made me laugh out loud when I saw it and hopefully it will do the same for her.

All of these images run about $3 apiece. Which is a steal compared to rubber stamps! Plus with digital stamps you can change the image size and cut and paste to your heart’s desire. If you haven’t tried digital stamping yet I encourage you to just jump in a give it a go.

I am entering the Still Hot card in the Catch the Bug Challenge : Photo Inspiration Anything Goes. Why not join in for a chance to win some great Bugaboo stamps yourself?

Happy Stamping,

Mo
