Grandpa’s Are Fathers Too

Posted on

I wanted to share two of the Father’s Day  cards I made for our children’s Grandfather’s. Although there is a grandparent’s day here in the USA sometime in September, I don’t celebrate it. It is one of those holidays that flies under the radar in our house because, I always figured grandmothers and grandfathers are just mothers and fathers once removed. So why not just celebrate them on the same day parents are celebrated?

I created this paper pieced suitcase for my husbands father, Wiley, who travels extensively for work. He sells carpeting for Shaw Industries. Which is a bit of a family joke since my husband and I opened a Mohawk Colorcenter flooring store 9 years ago.  But my point is that his sales territory is the Middle East! So when he flies over there he stays for weeks at a time. So suitcases are a familiar feature in his life.

My inspiration came from a chipboard sticker that already had the chain included. It reminded me of luggage tags, which reminded me of Wiley. The suitcase itself is just a rectangle of cardstock that has been embossed and the handles are hand cut. My favorite part of this card is the buckles for the luggage straps. I made them from an alphabet sticker set. It is just an O that I slid the strap through and an apostrophe that is the prong of the buckle. I set the whole thing on dimensional stickers to give it a 3D effect.

This card was quick and easy to make. I used another chipboard sticker for the central focus. The background is hand stamped and then dry embossed. I added a bow and I was done in record time. (I didn’t call Guinness or anything to confirm if it was really a record but, a card in 10 minutes is a personal best!)

About cardsbymo

Paper crafting is my Yoga. It takes my mind off any stress that I might have at the time. My daughter loves to get involved in my projects too and it is a great way to connect with her. Sixteen years ago I began scrapbooking but, my new true love is card making!
